Frequently asked questions about hiring out via Familieboten

What do I need to do myself as an independent boat owner?

No later than three weeks before departure, the guest and the owner receive each other's contact details. You can then agree what time check-in will take place.

You then make sure the boat is clean and ready to sail (with the water, fuel and, if applicable, gas tanks filled). You welcome the guests, give them a tour of the boat and, if you like, go out on the water with them for a bit. 

During the hire period you are available for any damage or specific questions. 
Together you agree the check-out time. When the guests return, you check for any damage, the full tank and anything else worth noting, preferably together with the guests.

When and how will I be paid?

We pay all boat owners weekly. This is no more than seven days after the hire.

What happens if there's damage?

 

We always ask guests to report any damage straight away to the owner or manager of the boat.
They fill in a damage report form, together with the skipper of the other boat if applicable.

Depending on who is at fault, the damage is settled against the deposit. The deposit is equal to the excess on the insurance.

 

If it turns out that the guest and skipper have not kept to the agreements (for example by boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, going too fast or ignoring the navigation rules), they can be held liable for the full amount of the damage.

 

When the guests return, we always discuss refunding the deposit. If there is damage, we deduct the cost of the damage from the deposit, or keep the whole deposit if the damage is higher.

 

Can I still use my boat myself?

Of course! You manage the calendar: the dates you block for your own use can't be booked by anyone. Do this early in the season so you have plenty of choice yourself. 

What do you look for when selecting boats and owners?

As a minimum, we expect:
1. A smart, technically well-maintained boat, including insurance for boat hire.

2. A fully equipped boat (life jackets, kitchen equipment, good furniture).

3. A willingness to welcome guests in person and to be available during the hire period.

What does it cost to hire out my boat?

Signing up is free and there are no subscription costs. You only pay commission on booked hires.

Am I insured while my boat is on hire?

Do I stay in control of my calendar?

Absolutely. You decide which periods are available, what the price is and which house rules apply. Dates you block for your own use can't be booked by anyone else.
