Discover Sneek from the water

If you know Sneek, you know the Waterpoort. This sixteenth-century gatehouse, which literally stands over the water, is the icon of the town, and it looks its best when you sail through it by boat. It's one of those moments that stay with you after a boating holiday in Sneek.

But Sneek is more than that one view. The town centre has lovely waterside terraces, good restaurants and a marina with a great atmosphere throughout the boating season. A stroll around town or a visit to the Fries Scheepvaart Museum (Frisian Maritime Museum) also makes a nice day out. Moor up, step ashore and wander into town, then set off again a few hours later towards the lakes.

Sneekweek and the season: when should you book?

Sneek is worth a visit all through the boating season, but if you want to be out on the water around Sneekweek (always the first week of August), you need to book early. The marina in Sneek and the surrounding waters are extra busy that week.

Outside Sneekweek, Sneek is one of the loveliest destinations in the early and late season.
